(11/16) This weekend Grossmont took home third-place in
the Southern California Regionals, and advanced to the State
Finals in Merced this weekend.
The Griffins took care of Mt Sac 18-11. They then lost to
Golden West 11-15 in the semifinals. Grossmont then won
their way into the State Finals by defeating Ventura 15-11.
Grossmont opens the Finals with a match Friday versus
Diablo Valley College at 10:30 am. The Griffs will face
Golden West later in the day Friday.
If they can win both Friday matches Grossmont will
advance to the State Championship match. If the Griffs win
one and lose one Friday, they will play in the Third Place
match. Two losses would send the Griffins home.
Grossmont claims 9th PCC Championship
(11/6) The Grossmont men's water polo program continued
its dominance of the Pacific Coast Conference last week. The
Griffins secured their ninth-straight PCC Championship by
defeating Southwestern College 21-10.
The Griffins finished the regular season with a record of
30-4, and a conference record of 6-0. Head Coach Brian
Harvey, at the helm since 1989, can win his 500th career
game this coming weekend.

Griffins Update
(10/28) - Last week Grossmont beat a fired-up SD Mesa
team in their home pool 13-9 prior to winning the Saddleback
Tournament.
Israel Perez scored 19 goals in four games this
weekend and was named the PCC Athlete of the Week.
Perez, a 5-foot-10, 178-pound freshman utility player
from La Paz, Mexico, scored 19 goals in four games as the
Griffins swept to the championship of the Saddleback
Tournament No. 2.
Perez scored five goals in a 17-4 victory over
Southwestern, six goals in a 19-8 win over Fullerton, four
goals in a 15-6 win over Palomar and four goals as the
Griffins, who lead the PCC and are 29-4 overall, downed host
Saddleback 15-10 or the tournament title.
Trivia:
In 1992 and 1993 Grossmont won 33 games. If the Griffins win
on Wednesday versus Southwestern and win the PCC Tournament
(at Miramar on Nov. 7-8) next weekend that will be 32 wins.
Win number 32 would also be the 500th career win here are
Grossmont for head coach Brian Harvey.
Griffins Win Saddleback Men’s Water Polo Tournament

Saddleback made it to the championship game of its own
tournament before falling to Grossmont, 15-10, in the
Saddleback Invitational held October 24 and 25 in the campus
pool. The Gauchos defeated Orange Empire Conference foe
Fullerton, 15-9, on Saturday in order to reach the
tournament finals. Grossmont beat Pacific Coast Conference
rival Palomar, 15-6, on Saturday to advance to the title
game. Palomar ended up defeating Fullerton, 9-6, for third
place.

Grossmont score update
(10/6) The Grossmont men's Water Polo team went 2-2 this
weekend. Scores were: Citrus 17-1, Golden West 11-13,
Ventura 15-9, and Long Beach 11-13. Grossmont is now 20-3,
3-0.
Griffins on a roll to start 2008
(9/30/2008) The Grossmont men's water polo is no
stranger to success and they have bolted out of the
starting gates in 2008.
Last week the Griffins took home the tournament title
at Saddleback making the squad three-for-three in
tournament titles this season.
The Griffins, ranked 5th in the state by
www.jcwaterpolo.com,
are currently 18-1 overall including a 3-1 mark in the
PCC.
Jordan Van Norman leads the team in scoring with 44
goals, followed by Kevin Schimpf with 33. Remmington
McKittrick leads with 25 steals and Hans Van Dijk leads
with 40 assists.
Goalie, Austin Harder, has 126 saves.
