Griffs Jags Battle to 0-0 Tie

(11/7) Coming off their emotional win at Miramar, the Griffins had the task of healing the bruises and recharging for Southwestern. It took about 20 minutes to really get going. When Grossmont came alive they produced some great scoring chances. The best of the game was late when Hilary Lewis beat the keeper to an Annie Schram free kick which deflected off the keeper's back and just wide.

The final week of the season approaches with four teams still in the hunt for the PCC championship. Grossmont travels to Cuyamaca on Wednesday


Griffins Get Emotional Win at Miramar

(11/5) Grossmont needed to pour everything they had into their 2-1 comeback win at Miramar. Down 1-0 nearing half time, Alexis Carreon muscled the ball from a Jet defender before finding Christy James in front of the goal for the equalizing goal. The second half was very hard fought with both teams having chances including Gigi Lowes shot off the cross bar. She would not be denied as she was able to get her head to a Rebekah Olin corner kick which found the net in the final minute. The win moves Grossmont into a second place tie with Southwestern.


Moore Leads GC to Win With Hattrick

(10/29) Freshman Ashley Moore scored a hattrick as Grossmont defeated IVC 9-0. Moore's hattrick is the first for a Grossmont player since 2006. Other goalscorers include Hilary Lewis (2), Giselle Torres, Richelle Urenda, Rebekah and Christy James. Samantha Spatter had two assists.


Olin Named PCC Athlete of the Week

(10/28) - The Pacific Coast Conference has selected Grossmont College soccer player Rebekah Olin as its Women’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended on Sunday.

Olin, a sophomore from Westlake High School in Westlake Village and a transfer from Moorpark College, came up big in the Griffins’ 2-1 victory over San Diego Mesa.
Olin scored both of the Grossmont goals.


Griffs Allow Last Minute Equalizer

(10/24) Palomar scored on a corner kick in the 90th minute to earn a 2-2 tie with visiting Grossmont. Rebekah Olin scored her third goal of the week and Hilary Lewis scored to put Grossmont up 2-1 with 8 minutes remaining.


GC Beats Mesa, Moves Up

(10/22) Two goals by Rebekah Olin in the first half were enough to lead the Griffins to an important win over visiting Mesa. With the PCC more competitive than ever before, this win moved GC over Mesa into third and within striking distance of first.


Griffs Win at Mira Costa

(10/17) Ashley Moore and Gigi Lowe lead the way with two goals and two assists each. Rebekah Olin also had two goals en route to a 9-0 Grossmont win. Other scorers include; Alexis Carreon, Christy James and Hilary Lewis.


Griffins Bounce Back With Convincing Performance

(10/15) Goals by Christy James (2), Gigi Lowe and Clare Lacy spurred Grossmont to a 4-0 win at San Diego City. With the score tied at the half, Grossmont stepped things up to get back on track. Brandi Whitehead had 2 assists to spark the scoring.


GC Surrenders Second Consecutive Loss

(10/10) Coming off a heart-breaking loss at Southwestern the Griffins hoped to rebound against Cuyamaca. They again rallied to tie the game with a beautiful header goal by Gigi Lowe. Cuya scored on a free kick. Despite several quality chances, GC were unable to find the equalizer.


Griffs Suffer "Last Minute" Loss

(10/8) Grossmont rallied in the second half to earn a tie that should have stood up at Southwestern. Rebekah Olin scored in the second half off a feed from Morgan Bowne to knot the score at 1-1. With the 90th, 91st and 92nd minutes elapsed the referee allowed a free kick that allowed the Jags to score a go ahead goal.


Lacy Goal Keeps GC in the Hunt With Win Over Miramar

(10/3) Clare Lacy scored her first collegiate goal which turned out to be the game winner in a battle against Miramar. The Jets came in to the contest as the first place team in the very competitive PCC. Based on points Southwestern now holds the top spot since some teams have had byes. Only three points separating first to fifth. Lacy, a redshirt freshman, was inserted in the 60th minute. Ashley Moore had gone down the right, cut the ball back to Christy James who served a ball into the box. Lacy was following the play that found her open at the back post to finish in the 70th minute. Keeper Amanda Ward along with a strong defensive effort recorded their sixth shutout of the year. Next game is Wednesday at Southwestern.


Griffins Finish Week 2-0 With Win At IVC

(9/26) After their inspiring comeback versus Palomar, the girls followed up with a 6-0 victory at Imperial Valley in 110 degree heat. Gigi Lowe was the first of six goalscorers to get the Griffins going just 38 seconds into the match. Other scorers include; Ashley Moore, Sam Spatter, Alexis Carreon, Giselle Torres and Brandi Whitehead. The Griffins next game will be at home on Friday @ 3:15 against Miramar who are currently one point ahead of second place Grossmont.


Griffins Suffer First Loss on the Road

(9/19) Grossmont were handed their first defeat of the season 1-0 at Mesa. The goal came in the second minute on a defensive mis-communication. The Griffins pressured hard in the second half creating a few good chances but could not equalize.


Griffins Bounce back With "Come From Behind" Win

(9/24) Coming off their first loss Grossmont rallied to earn a deserved 2-1 victory over visiting Palomar. Palomar scored on a nice volley in the first half after Grossmont had several quality opportunities to score. In the second half the Griffins came out more inspired Gigi Lowe (West Hills) beat the trap off a feed from Annie Schram (Helix) to tie the game. Later Lowe fed Giselle Torres (Calexico) who found Hilary Lewis (Patrick Henry) running through the middle for the game winner. Next GC travels to Imperial Valley.


Griffins Get Convincing Win in PCC Opener

Coming off a week of practice following their tournament championship, Grossmont were definitely ready for a match. They opened the PCC with a 9-0 win over visiting Mira Costa. Freshman Gigi Lowe (West Hills) wasted no time getting Grossmont on track with her first of three goals in the second minute.

Other goalscorers included; Brandi Whitehead (2), Ashley Moore, Rebekah Olin, Chelsea Jenner & Giselle Torres. Amanda Ward recorded her fourth shutout of the year.

Next game is Friday at Mesa.


Griffins Claim "Duel in the Desert" Title

(9/7) The third time (reaching the final) was the charm for the Griffins who defeated Sierra College 1-0 in the final to win the fourth annual "Duel in the Desert" classic hosted by Victor Valley College.

It was the Griffins third time reaching the final over the past four years and the first time to win it. Rebekah Olin provided the winner for Grossmont with a 25 yard blast in the first half.

In the first game, Grossmont defeated host Victor Valley 3-0 to earn the trip to the final. Grossmont will return to action on September 17th when they host Mira Costa in their home PCC opener.


Griffins Hang Tough With State Finalists in 1-1 Draw

9/3 In last years playoffs Santiago Canyon handed Grossmont a 1-0 loss to end their season. In that game the girls play hard with a lot of pride.

That continued into this year as the Griffins battled the state finalists to a 1-1 tie. SCCC set the tone early coming out strong with a balanced and effective attack.

The second half saw Grossmont bring their level up and create some quality chances. Both goals came in injury time with SCCC scoring on a freekick and Alexis Carreon answered with a left footer from top of the box from a service by Annie Schramm.

Grossmont will be in action again this weekend at the "Duel in the Desert" at Victor Valley CC.


Griffins Open Season With First Shutout Win On New Field

The Griffin women broke in their new turf properly, with a 5-0 win over visiting Irvine Valley College. It was the first match of any kind played on the new turf that was installed in January of this year. Grossmont had a balanced attack as 5 different players scored.

Sophomore Alexis Carreon lead the way with a goal and two assists. Other scorers included sophomore Hilary Lewis (Patrick Henry) and freshmen Chelsea Jenner (Steele Canyon), Ashley Moore (Mt. Carmel) & Christy James (El Capitan). Amanda Ward and Cody Sparling combined for the shutout. Next game is Santiago Canyon who ended last years playoff run for the Griffins.
