Griffs Jags Battle to 0-0 Tie
(11/7) Coming off their emotional win at Miramar, the
Griffins had the task of healing the bruises and recharging
for Southwestern. It took about 20 minutes to really get
going. When Grossmont came alive they produced some great
scoring chances. The best of the game was late when Hilary
Lewis beat the keeper to an Annie Schram free kick which
deflected off the keeper's back and just wide.
The final week of the season approaches with four teams
still in the hunt for the PCC championship. Grossmont
travels to Cuyamaca on Wednesday
Griffins Get Emotional Win at Miramar
(11/5) Grossmont needed to pour everything they had into
their 2-1 comeback win at Miramar. Down 1-0 nearing half
time, Alexis Carreon muscled the ball from a Jet defender
before finding Christy James in front of the goal for the
equalizing goal. The second half was very hard fought with
both teams having chances including Gigi Lowes shot off the
cross bar. She would not be denied as she was able to get
her head to a Rebekah Olin corner kick which found the net
in the final minute. The win moves Grossmont into a second
place tie with Southwestern.
Moore Leads GC to Win With Hattrick
(10/29) Freshman Ashley Moore scored a hattrick as
Grossmont defeated IVC 9-0. Moore's hattrick is the first
for a Grossmont player since 2006. Other goalscorers include
Hilary Lewis (2), Giselle Torres, Richelle Urenda, Rebekah
and Christy James. Samantha Spatter had two assists. |

GC Beats Mesa, Moves Up
(10/22) Two goals by Rebekah Olin in the first half were
enough to lead the Griffins to an important win over
visiting Mesa. With the PCC more competitive than ever
before, this win moved GC over Mesa into third and within
striking distance of first.

rallied to tie the game with a beautiful header goal by Gigi
Lowe. Cuya scored on a free kick. Despite several quality
chances, GC were unable to find the equalizer.
Griffs Suffer "Last Minute" Loss
(10/8) Grossmont rallied in the second half to earn a tie
that should have stood up at Southwestern. Rebekah Olin
scored in the second half off a feed from Morgan Bowne to
knot the score at 1-1. With the 90th, 91st and 92nd minutes
elapsed the referee allowed a free kick that allowed the
Jags to score a go ahead goal. |
Lacy Goal Keeps GC in the Hunt With Win Over Miramar
(10/3) Clare Lacy scored her first collegiate goal which
turned out to be the game winner in a battle against
Miramar. The Jets came in to the contest as the first place
team in the very competitive PCC. Based on points
Southwestern now holds the top spot since some teams have
had byes. Only three points separating first to fifth. Lacy,
a redshirt freshman, was inserted in the 60th minute. Ashley
Moore had gone down the right, cut the ball back to Christy
James who served a ball into the box. Lacy was following the
play that found her open at the back post to finish in the
70th minute. Keeper Amanda Ward along with a strong
defensive effort recorded their sixth shutout of the year.

Griffins
Hang Tough With State Finalists in 1-1 Draw
9/3 In last years playoffs Santiago Canyon handed
Grossmont a 1-0 loss to end their season. In that game the
girls play hard with a lot of pride.
That continued into this year as the Griffins battled the
state finalists to a 1-1 tie. SCCC set the tone early coming
out strong with a balanced and effective attack.
The second half saw Grossmont bring their level up and
create some quality chances. Both goals came in injury time
with SCCC scoring on a freekick and Alexis Carreon answered
with a left footer from top of the box from a service by
Annie Schramm.
Grossmont will be in action again this weekend at the
"Duel in the Desert" at Victor Valley CC. |
