Personal Training Class Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leadership Certificate
The Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leadership Certificate is a program that provides entry level training in the fitness/health industry as a personal trainer and a group exercise leader. The one-year program is well-rounded, including instruction in anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, treatment of injuries and practical training techniques for normal and special populations. All students do community service learning in the Personal Training and Group Exercise Leadership field in a supervised internship.

The program is designed to help prepare students to sit for industry exams for certification from the following organizations:

  • ACE – American Council on Exercise
  • NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine
  • AFAA – Aerobic Fitness Association of America
  • NSCA – National Strength and Conditioning Association

All students who successfully complete the program with a grade of “C” or better in every class will receive a Certificate of Completion in Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leadership from ROP. Also, all students who take the classes for college credit, achieve a grade of “C” or better and pay tuition, can additionally receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leadership offered by Grossmont College.

All of the Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Leadership classes are available for college credit and it is highly recommended that students enroll for college credit in all of the classes in order to obtain the Grossmont College Certificate of Proficiency.

Students must take the ROP section for each class on the specified day and time they are offered or they will not receive the certificates. These sections are offered from approximately 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. two days per week. Other morning sections offered by the college are not part of this program.
